Green living in the Waldviertel Hösel
Sustainable, green residential quarter on the outskirts of Düsseldorf
In Ratingen-Hösel, in the immediate vicinity of the Steinsiepenbach stream and the Hugenpoeter Busch, a new residential area including a kindergarten and commercial use is to be built. Due to its special location in the countryside, its proximity to the various transport infrastructures and its distance from the center of Hösel, special challenges arose with regard to noise protection, development and architecture.
13 point buildings, whose orientation creates different qualities of open space, are grouped along the tracks. A forecourt, which together with the station forecourt forms the entrance to the district, leads to the district square, which forms the center. The end is formed by a calm, semi-public square for the residents of the district.
The entire district is designed as a car-free quarter, with parking spaces located in the green embankment along the tracks. From here, two basement levels can be reached via a parking ramp, providing sufficient parking space for residents and their guests. This also means that significantly less space is sealed than in a conventional underground garage. In terms of design, the new buildings blend in very well with the surrounding structure thanks to their wooden façades and generous window openings and, together with the precisely tailored, diverse outdoor space solutions, including forest playgrounds and a walkable rampart, create a unique quarter that forms its own identity despite its exceptional geographical location.
