Boeselburg - Housing for students

RESIDENTIAL, COMPLETED, NEW BUILDING

Colorful and sustainable student living: Tomato red, sunny yellow, grass green and Yves Klein blue. In combination with the white, irregularly placed frames of the windows, the result is a cheerful, lively atmosphere. Boeselburg is currently the largest passive house development in Europe.

The student housing complex in Münster creates its own flowing, asymmetrically organized urban space with over 500 residents on a living space of 18,000 m², which conveys an almost village-like feeling.
Four building blocks form the heart of the campus. They have the same basic shape, but do not copy each other, instead appearing as genuine individuals. The arrangement in particular contributes to this. The building blocks themselves do not form regular rectangles, the short sides have different lengths and there are no right angles. This slight shift already creates dynamism. They are also arranged asymmetrically in relation to each other. They look like randomly thrown puzzle pieces.

Where the building blocks almost seem to touch, narrow passages are created. Where they are further apart, surprising triangular squares are created. The interplay of opposites - in this case narrowness and expanse - is typical of the student housing complex on Lake Aa. The structures overlap. Inside and outside. High and low. Condensed and dense. The functions too.
The building blocks are differentiated. They each consist of four main houses and four rear houses. This creates angles and niches, widening and narrowing and diagonal views in the inner courtyard. The main house side facing the main paths also varies in height, thus visually interlocking the interior (courtyard) and exterior (public areas). The maximum of four storeys emphasizes the community and block character. Despite a side length of 75 m, everything appears nested, small and compartmentalized.
The colors of the façades are vibrant. The rich tone and intense radiance are familiar and appealing.
