Grammar School Essen

EDUCATION, COMPETITION, NEW BUILDING, SCHOOL

The building envelope with different elements and structures loosens up the façade and lends the building a sense of lightness.

The design formulates the previously missing spatial conclusion of a site that is built on with two buildings and is partially enclosed by a green embankment. The new grammar school conceptually joins the building site into a ring and is intended to stimulate and strengthen cooperation, communication and exchange at an educational level. The sweeping structure can be interpreted as a symbol of forward-looking and dynamic school education. Compact and functional, but not additively dogmatic.
The bright entrance hall forms the communicative center, the heart of which is an open staircase; a “moving break area” around which the clusters of the individual departments are grouped.
