Comprehensive school Rüsselsheim - Main building
Two years after the new extension, the renovated and remodelled main building was reopened
The main building of the Alexander von Humboldt School in Rüsselsheim was built over 50 years ago and has been an educational centre for thousands of pupils ever since. Now the building was getting on in years and was in urgent need of renovation. In addition, there was a severe lack of space due to the growing number of pupils.
KRESINGS has already completed a new extension building for the 2020/21 school year, which houses years 5-7 as well as the administration and canteen. Click here for the documentation of the extension.
The main building has now also been renovated and reorganised for the 2023/24 school year. In addition to classes 8 to 10, it houses music and theatre rooms. The centrepiece is the open-plan assembly hall, which was created by raising the roof structure to the first floor and adding galleries all the way round. Internal school events can now be held here with perfect acoustics.
Great importance was attached to barrier-free access to all rooms, a healthy climate in the classrooms and sufficient natural light. Pupils can also look forward to additional places of retreat and workspaces in addition to the usual classrooms: the gallery around the atrium offers multifunctional areas.
A central courtyard has been created between the two school buildings and the existing sports hall, which can be used as a school campus or an outdoor educational area.
