Altenessen Comprehensive School

EDUCATION, COMPETITION, NEW BUILDING, SCHOOL

Design for a new school building in timber hybrid construction with passive house standard.

The city of Essen is planning the new foundation and construction of a 6-form comprehensive school as well as a triple and two single-field sports halls in the Altenessen-Süd district. In terms of urban planning, the design formulates previously missing spatial boundaries and conceptually combines the construction site into a ring.
The new three-storey building is designed as a timber hybrid construction. The plinth areas consist of prefabricated exposed concrete elements with climbing aids for a green façade, while the upper floors are planned as a timber façade. A pleasant room atmosphere is combined with efficient production and a short construction time.
