Building application submitted in Mönchengladbach
Things are making great strides on the site of the former police headquarters in Mönchengladbach: the building application for the first construction phase of the important structural change project Knowledge and Innovation Campus (WICMG) has been officially submitted.
This step has now created the basis for taking the structural transformation of a central site in Mönchengladbach to the next stage. The building application concerns the three buildings on the site that will be “tackled” first, including the former gymnasium (future “Campus Forum”), the directly adjacent building with the background areas such as changing rooms, sanitary facilities and multi-purpose room, as well as another building that will serve as a children's, youth and family center in the future - including a small café and STEM-oriented educational and leisure facilities.
An application for funding of around 16 million euros for this construction phase was submitted to the Cologne district government back in April 2025. The start of the construction phase is optimistically targeted for the first quarter of 2026 - subject to funding approval and planning permission. The coming months will now be used to prepare the structural implementation.
