Council resolution - financing of the new Gymnasium in Düsseldorf has been decided

Urgently needed school places cannot be achieved by expanding existing schools alone. In Düsseldorf-Eller, a new Gymnasium was opened on Bernburger Straße in the last school year. It is being gradually built up as a four-form grammar school with nine grades and up to 1,000 pupils.

KRESINGS is planning the extension and refurbishment of the former secondary school building. Another important hurdle has now been cleared: The construction and financing of the new extension and the remodelling and refurbishment measures have been approved by a city council resolution. The city of Düsseldorf will invest more than €70 million: A fully-fledged and barrier-free Gymnasium with a new triple sports hall will be built. The first grade had already moved in at the start of the 2024/25 school year.

The conversion, extension and refurbishment will now be carried out in several construction phases while the school is in operation. The city expects completion by the end of 2028.

The new building with very low energy requirements, its own photovoltaic system, open-air classrooms and school garden will be constructed as a three-storey block and is primarily intended for secondary level one with four classes each. The auditorium, music rooms and a cluster area are located on the ground floor of this block. In addition to further classrooms, the upper floors will mainly house science classrooms.
